The Ball Dropped...

It was New Years Eve 2016. I was exhausted, alone and quiet for the first time since my Mom’s passing.

A steady flow of tears, too difficult to hide began pouring down my face. My tears from raw grief spilled out and there was no stopping them. It was as if the emotions I put on hold were now demanding my attention and screamed to be acknowledged. I’m sure you can all identify. I was SO not ready to face a new year.

As hard as 2016 was, at least it had Mom in it.

I tried letting the vision of Mom, in Heaven, happy and free of pain -be enough. I envisioned her enveloped in sheer joy, and love as she is face to face with Jesus. I knew she now has the perfect body she dreamed about while she was trapped in her frail and sickly one. I pictured all of this, but in that moment I needed – more.

The Holy Spirit so gently caused my thoughts wander to the cross. I envisioned many a tear that was shed there. I envisioned Jesus on that cross suffering. His purpose was clear. cross imageHis love for us held Him there, and there and ultimately cried, “It is finished.” He gave up His life, completing the will of His Father in Heaven.

Strangely, as I meditated on His boundless, amazing love- my pain began to lift.

A very old worship song began to play on the iPad next to me. It was one of Mom’s favorite worship songs called, Worthy is the Lamb. The timing of that song playing was unmistakably God’s touch and word to my hurting heart. He knew. Mom knew too. It was to me, a gift from Heaven.

A few hours later, the famous ball dropped and the world echoed, “Happy New Year!”

My circumstances did not change, but because of this reflection on the boundless, amazing love of Christ, I was somehow ready to face “tomorrow.”

Philippians 4:13 says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Through Christ, facing a new year with a hole in my heart bigger than the ocean, was possible. This raw, fresh loss and disappointment cannot hold back the strength God that promises to give me, through Christ Jesus, God’s beloved Son. look up to night sky imageHe defeated death and showed His love by saving me. Every day He offers me His strength, His comfort, His courage and His living hope – that never disappoints.

Jesus is why our lives on earth have meaning. His masterful, beautiful and redemptive plan for all who will put their faith and trust in Him, is so worth laying our pride down to embrace Him. He defeated death to save and love you. He offers you His strength, His comfort, His courage and His living hope that never disappoints. Do you hear Him whispering to your heart? Will you, by faith, answer His call? Jesus, the Good Shepherd, desires you to walk this journey of life into the every new year and every new day, with Him. He is all seeing, all knowing, and couldn’t love you more.

He deepens our trust in Him with each curious twist and bend in the road of life. There are no surprises to Him and He always knows just what we need. He alone is worthy of our trust.

In the Lord, do we put our confident trust. (Psalms 11:1a)

Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of Your wings. Psalms 17:8

Friends, I leave you with a lyric video from a song that’s just so perfect for those times you feel broken, alone and like you just can’t carry on. This is Jesus’s heart. For you and for me.

This was one of Mom's favorites
